I’ve seen a number of PVs for the spring season, and I’ve got a bit to add about some shows I previously talked about.
- Allison & Lillia – (04/03) -
My anticipation has wavered slightly. From the two PVs I’ve seen, it appears the series is going to be more about the friendship between the main characters than their role within a large war and how it changes it. Kind of a Sam & Frodo vs. Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli. The latter is what I prefer, and what I particularly enjoyed in Last Exile. I didn’t find myself caring quite so much why Titania no longer wanted to be a pilot, and only a co-pilot, I wanted to see how the war played out with Alan and Claus within it.
- Kure-nai – (04/03) -
The PV didn’t provide too much, but at the very least it’s evident they’ve got a good director at the helm for the style. It’s pleasantly paced, and slow, nothing wacky or out of the ordinary that I could see.
- Druaga no Tou – (04/04) -
Hmm, I really want this series to be good, but what I saw in the PVs was not promising. Generic action battles and streaming background attacks. It looked like scenes pulled out of .hack. This has me worried for a lackluster storyline and generic climatic battles every episode.
- Blassreiter – (04/05) -
I’m more excited about this. There wasn’t much in terms of story in the PV, but it showed off some very pretty graphics, and some awesome fight scenes. I haven’t watched a good action series in a long time, so as long as this can deliver stunning fights regularly, I may watch it even if the story is subpar.
- Nabari no Ou – (04/06) -
Hmm, I’m not sure why half the PV had to be black screens with white text, but the action looks decent and the setting fantastical. A couple of Bleach-ish shots in the PV, but nothing to make me worry too much.
- Real Drive – (04/08) -
This one has me worried. It looks like a lot of talking, and very little action. Given Production I.G.’s style I’m betting that there will be long, long periods of dull philosophizing. GitS works because it’s about police and interspersed with great action and mystery stories. This may be too “heavy” for its own good.
- Kyouran – (04/12) -
Interesting. I saw some shots towards the beginning of the PV that I hope were concept art, as the pacing was off from the rest of the preview. What I saw though looked like the kind of wackiness I’m expecting from this series.
